Consumer Spending

Illustration for New York Times
Friday, November 28, 2008

The Great Recession hit industries hard in November of 2008. Most reports showed an abrupt halt in the American consumer's shopping habits. This was very evident in contrast to the spending binge we seem to have been on for the last few years. In illustrating the end of this binge, we looked to create a "day after the party" vibe. By using a bottle to represent the fast moving capital American's had been drunk on, we tried to illuminate the bleak outlook.
