wendy & Lucy

Illustration for
Blender Magazine

For Blender Magazine's review of Kelly Reichardt’s Wendy & Lucy we knew we had to represent a variety of human emotions. Michelle Williams' performance carries the whole movie with her dog, Lucy, and while the plot is ultra-simple, the impression it leaves is complex. We decided the film was about an American system that lets people like Wendy fall through the cracks. But also it is about an unconditional love a human can have for an animal, especially when loneliness is crushing. In our interpretation, Wendy and Lucy are shown in each others image, while references to money, states traveled through and the basic debris of life surround.   Caption:

Wendy (Michelle Williams) and Lucy the dog."
